Member of ALCI - Association of Landscape Contractors
of Ireland
In 2007, Earthworks joined the ALCI, which is the Association
of Landscape Contractors in Ireland. This body is a recognised
body which promotes very high standards of work & has
just reached its 100 member status. One of the big events
for the ALCI is the awards ceremony which is held in October
of each year. There are a number of sectors within the awards
which can be checked out at www.alci.ie.
For the past 2 years now, we at Earthworks have picked up
an award for two different categories. In 2007, we received
an award for our garden in The National Garden Exhibition
Centre and in 2008, we received an award for private gardens
under €13000. This garden was for a private client in
Dalkey.

2008 Award Winning Garden
In 2008, Earthworks received the award for private
gardens under €13,000. This garden was designed &
built for a private client, Therese Crowley in Dalkey. The
brief was to build a Moroccan garden in the 'Yard' as she
called it. A permanent bench was constructed which was rendered
and capped with 'Arroco' hardwood timber to which you could
sit & catch the sun no matter what time of day. The tiles
were chosen to include a border tile & were fitted onto
a pre-constructed concrete plinth. Planting was subtly added
to the garden to represent the Moroccan theme throughout.
The Crowleys now see the garden as a valuable addition to
their house and use it like an extra room. Overall, the garden
is a great success & there for many years of enjoyment.
The garden has been featured in The
Sunday Times (5MB) and also The Sunday Business Post.
National Garden Exhibition Centre
The NGEC is a collection of gardens designed and built
by landscapers in a purpose built arena. In February 2007,
Earthworks Landscape Services were approached by the proprietor
of the NGEC to design and build a garden on location. We wanted
to create a garden that was different by design, materials
& approach. A garden called 'Tranquillity' was constructed,
one of structure and form with a modern twist using gabions
to form a series of terraces and rooms.
The garden has proved a big success for Earthworks and was
critically acclaimed by the landscape industry where we received
an award of merit in October 2007.
